There was some news out today about Above.com and TheDomains.com specified the announcement as Above.com being the first registrar to share profits with their customers. Above.com is planning to give 60 % of the proceeds from expired domains that are auctioned on their Above.com marketplace. This is certainly cool but they are not the first. Back in the day Network Solutions actually shared some profits and then Fabulous.com rolled out their program.
I let zztv.org on Fabulous and it was purchased at NameJet which is where Fabulous expired inventory goes. The name was picked up with just one bid of $69. I received 60 %
On 5/27/11 I received an email:
Dear Raymond Hackney,
Congratulations, your domain(s) is sold!
ZzTv.org Sale price: $69.00 USD

Now if only Go Daddy would implement this, Domainers may declare that day an International Holiday.

Thanks for sharing, you would think a press release would be accurate, its not like no one has heard of Fabulous.
Michael says
The press release didn’t say they were the first, TheDomains incorrectly added that.
Raymond Hackney says
Thank you Michael and the post has been updated to reflect that.

I wish Dynadot would implement a similar policy or maybe even bring on some needed competition by offering 65% of the proceeds back to registrants!
