Domain Investing Stats and Tips

Go Daddy Closeout picks

August 7, 2011 by Raymond Hackney

Going to add a new category here, a daily list of some Go Daddy closeouts that may be worth your while.

Go Daddy Closeouts for those new to domaining or thinking about getting started, work like this:

These names have gone through the eleven day expiring auction cycle

No one bid

The names become available for direct purchase at $11

After 24 hours if no one buys it drops to $10

Then to $9 and then to $8 and finishes at $5

Each price gets 24 hours

Names will keep their age

Some may look at a name at $11 and think I will wait for $5.  If you are buying a lot of names this makes sense, just remember others are watching too. So if you really like a name and have a plan for the name then you might want to pay $11 or $10.

If you buy 5 at once you get $5 off the total. 10 you get $10 off. 20 you get $20 off.

Remember you also have to pay the one year registration price. You can use a coupon just like when you register a fresh domain.

Another thing to note, is that the previous registrant can still pay a fee to renew. So when you pay for the domain, you have to wait a few days for it to be in your account.  Do not try to sell the name once you have bought it, and do not post the name on a forum or blog.  Wait til it is in your account first.

You do not have to pay for a Go Daddy Auctions membership to buy closeout domains.

Before I get to the picks let me say, there are going to be no LLL or LLLL in these closeouts, no 3character.com, no one word generics.  But I am focusing on domains with age and have either some brandability or fun factor and hopefully a few product/service related domains.

You are not going to get rich but hopefully you can make some money. I certainly have purchased names that have been sold for $100 to $500. Its just another source for ideas and no promises made or guarantees.  Blatant tms will never be listed, but remember something that does not seem obvious could still be trademarked somewhere.

Picks for today

KeyDesigner.com The domain is 11 years old. Could be a fun vanity domain for someone who works in a design field.

Sneakster.com Fun name that is 8 years old, could be a site about sneakers.

Swogg.com Brandable 5 letter.com. Name is 8 years old and the .org is registered.

MekongHotel.com Vietnamese hotel play, domain is 11 years old. The plural regged in com and net and the hyphenated version regged.

UsedPrivateHelicopters.com Seems to be decent # of advertisers. Potential for lead generation if you know the private helicopter business.

GlitzGames.com Girlie type games domain, dress up, fashion etc… 4 year old domain.

Links go to the listing for that domain. The link is not an affiliate link for full disclosure.

    Thanks. I took MekongHotel.com for $5.
I’d like to share some good .COM renewal codes.
These codes below reduce the renewal portion down to $7.66 (includes the ICANN fee).
    PODFD412
    POSTER412
    OK412

    “Had swoop.com in my cart…”
    Zoltan,
If you meant Swogg.com, it’s still available at $10 for next 24 hours.

Closeout auctions are indeed a great place to find quality aged domains. We use them all of the time to do link building.
Tip: Look up the domain in the waybackmachine and rebuild the site using some of the old content. That will increase your chances of keeping the domain’s position in the SERPs.
