While settling down and preparing for the next day, I took a quick break to visit Domaining.com to discover any breaking domain industry news.
If you’re not familiar with Domaining.com, it’s a curation of publishers and bloggers that produce newsworthy content in regards to the domain industry news.
In fact, you’ll likely find a few articles written by yours truly as a contributing writer for TheDomains.com, TLDinvestors.com and DomainNameWire.com.
Nevertheless, always checking at the top of the morning and again at mid day, there was not much news that had taken place over the course of the day.
However, there was an article written by Morgan Linton — There a new domaining blog in town – welcome NZ Domainer — that caught my eye.
Likely was the case when folks in the industry first heard about KickstartCommerce.com, it’s always interesting to discover new domain investors and bloggers launching in the great abyss of domain blogging.
There have been a long list of folks bursting onto the domain blogging scene with just as many dying out as quick as they started.
In the case of NZ Domainer, he’s certainly off to a good start chronicling his domain investing journey only a week into his adventure.
Unfortunately, he’s committed the cardinal sin that most uninformed bloggers commit when intoxicated by the excitement of launching a blog: forgetting to register the .com domain. 😱
In the case of NZ Domainer, inexperience has led him to launch a blog using NZDomainer.Wordpress.com while NZDomainer.com remains available for registration at the time of this publication. YIKES! 😳
Hopefully NZ Domainer will wise up and make the purchase before an opportunistic takes advantage of his newbie mistake.
But NZ Domainer is not the only one to have made this mistake. He’s not the first and certainly won’t be the last.
Most folks seeking to start a blog tend to choose WordPress.com to host their new found interest because they don’t know any better.
My advice to bloggers is to ALWAYS own your domain name! In addition, there are a number of affordable alternatives — one-click WordPress installation — offered by reputable web hosting companies.
In fact, most offer a WordPress hosting package that will more than meet your need.
So, rather than settle for WordPress.com and make the grave mistake of not registering your blog’s matching .com domain, be sure to always register the .com domain for your next idea.
Not doing so could prove to be a costly lesson and experience of a lifetime.
