With dot com as the dominant extension in terms of value and exposure, it made sense over the years for blogs or forums to be established that focused on another niche like cctlds, or new gtlds. They did not get as much attention and these places look to provide more exposure.
Now there is so much attention on the new gtlds, with things such as the new ticker on Domaining.com and TheDomains, a lot of attention at NamesCon will be about the new gtlds, blogs starting that just focus on the new gtld space,(I am a writer for Dot Whatever) that domainers not interested are getting a little peeved. One only has to look at the post comments on thedomains regarding the new ticker to see the schism I wrote about before is widening.
Over the last year I have heard many suggestions, rants and complaints. They include things liked: I don't want to see anything about the new gtlds, Frank Schilling is a traitor, and I will not read a blog that accepts ads from new gtld registries, and many more.
So maybe there is a void and a Dot Com only blog may be the perfect blog for those who want to hear nothing or next to nothing about the new gtlds.
The new gtlds are here and they are not going away, Go Daddy the largest registrar is all in, acquisitions and divestitures have been made by other companies to gear up for them.
So maybe there is a demand for a dot com only blog, leave your opinion in the comments.

I think it will be a long time until you see the traction of anything other than the primary three (.com – net – org) and it will take the collapse of 99% of the new extensions before it catches on.
If you think about it, we have watched many new extensions become available and fall to the wake or never catch the traction they truly need. Not many people other than corporations will want the many extensions out there or the flashy new ones. It doesn’t make sense other than to protect a trademark or be consistent.

Maybe that is a good idea, Rick is kind of like the dot com blog.
Tom says
I don’t see .la gaining traction anywhere, it is all the other Blogs with the exception of Rick sell out to sponsors who will get rich off ,gtld hype, basically only you yourself can know what is bs, and what isn’t… Everyone has their hands in the cookie jar, and wants to sell you the dream….
DD says
I say good on Berkens and Francois, why should they not make as much as possible. If Brad Mugford is so successful selling .com how does he have the kind of time to be posting all day on blogs.
Don’t like it, don’t read it. Somehow I think they will survive without you.
Thomas says
You are right Tom no one should register anything but a .com, its a permanent gold mine for those that got their first, people should just pay millions and millions to make sure Schwartz and Ham eat well.
and wtf did .la have to with anything ?
Tom says
Anyone can register whatever they want, they have to put their wallet where there mouth is Thomas… That is why I state you shouldn’t listen to anyone there are to many hypsters on each side, the domainers will not decide how this story ends…
It will be the marketers, and consumers who develop products, and purchase them. We are very early in this game, there has been alot of money invested, everyone has something to gain, so use your best judgement, and try not to listen to the noise.

DD Brad is very credible in this space, and has contributed a lot over the years via namepros, and thru articles. I bet you would be amazed at some of his sales, so I would suggest you share some of yours.
DD says
Really Tom ? I never said he did not sell names I asked how he had the time to be always posting against new tlds.
On namepros what has he contributed except be a .com fanboy ?

gtld = good to lose dinero
Tom says
DD do you know anything Brad owns a lot of generic .us .biz .info names, talking big online, doesn’t make you a big man…
