When the new Gtlds come .travel,.name,.jobs should be hot, OH wait they are already available

August 25, 2011 by Raymond Hackney 5 Comments

There seems to be this logic from those with a horse in the new tld race, that you cannot look at the unsuccessful extensions of the past, because this time its different.

Well jobs is a great keyword and so is travel, and even though there are some restrictions on these sponsored tlds, its not like there is a clamoring from the world to get a piece.

Now we hear .nyc is going to be hot, why isn't .la ? True its a country code but you think the average Los Angelino knows that ?

What about .name ? Everyone has a name, heck they got a lot of names, first name, last name, nick name etc… Why doesn't every person with a name have a .name ? Its not restricted, open for the world.

Look I believe some gtld will make money, because some people can sell better than others. No matter what you think of .xxx, they got the golden boy of domaining Frank Schilling to put up seven figures before the extension was approved. That is salesmanship, who knows what .xxx will be.

One would have to wonder if some countries block .xxx why wouldn't all countries ? If China and India block it, wouldn't parents in the US push for a block too ? Don't we love our children ?

That could happen, but ICM already got seven figures from Frank, again salesmanship.

I have no interest in any new tld application, I don't own 10,000 .coms, so I am looking at it from the standpoint of where is the opportunity and will pick and choose. But to say this time is different is the ultimate red flag.

Again IMO

The extension doesn’t make money, the keyword does, as long as it matches the extension or the target market.
Anyone who tells you differently isn’t trying to help you, they’re trying to make money off your inexperience.
